I visited Paris in December 2024 with five girlfriends, with the main aim of eating a traditional Parisian bistro dinner. Going for only one night meant we didn’t manage to do much else but we still came home feeling refreshed from having a break from everyday life.
The journey
We travelled by Eurostar from St Pancras to Gare du Nord. It’s such an easy enjoyable journey. Take a tea towel with you if you are planning on opening champagne as I ended up with soggy knees. On arrival in Paris we took a station taxi to our accommodation but that ended up being an expensive error, and it would have been far cheaper to have called an Uber.
Where we stayed
Paris is full of gorgeous hotels. But we stayed in a hostel… It cost less than £50 per person, meant that we all had our own bed (the top bunk was fairly challenging to get in and out of), and meant we could all stay in the same room together. We booked a private room for six people with en suite at The Generator hostel.
How we spent our time
On arrival at the hostel we left our bags and went straight out again to visit the shops and cafes. Galeries Lafayette was rammed so we headed out to quieter shopping areas. The main purpose of our visit however was dinner. We booked Le Bon Georges and it was absolutely perfect. It is a small typical French bistro and booking in advance is a must. The interior is very pretty and the food was fantastic. We started with a delicious leek soup, followed by chateaubriand to share with sides, and millefeuille for pudding. Afterwards we struggled to find somewhere of the same standard to continue drinks so we should have done better research beforehand. But perhaps that worked out for the best as we were home by 1am and fresh for travelling home the following morning.
