We visited Mexico with our son Zebedee when he was one years old – in 2019. It is the only trip back in time that I have included on the website because it was so great and I wanted to share the wonders of Tulum!
The journey
We flew from London to Cancun with British Airways. It’s an 11 hour flight so quite a commitment with a baby but between us it was fine and he managed to sleep for a good amount of time. Once in Cancun we took a taxi straight to Tulum which took 1h 30m.
Where we stayed
We stayed at Hotel Prana for ten nights, a small boutique hotel in the centre of town. There is a small swimming pool and informal restaurant on site, and is a great place to stay with babies or just adults – older children would find the facilities too small. We loved being in the centre of town.
How we spent our time
The hotel had bikes which were free to use. We had the baby carrier with us so my husband would ride with Zebedee attached to his front. It always felt very safe and it is a bike friendly town. The freedom of the bikes meant we could travel around the town easily to eat, including the best paella and the best burritos ever. The beautiful beaches were also a short bike ride away, as were the Mayan ruins. Tulum is a great mix of town, beach and culture and is a great place to go for a more adventurous holiday than just being in a hotel complex.
