My husband and I travelled to Bologna in May 2024 for two nights. It’s a small pretty City built from distinctive red brick, and a great place to relax and enjoy a change of scene.
The journey
We flew from Gatwick with Easyjet to Bologna. Once at Bologna airport we took the Marconi Express train in to the city centre. It’s a short journey of under ten minutes and really easy to navigate.
Where we stayed
We stayed at the Aemilia Hotel. It was comfortable and clean and on the edge of the central district so easy to walk everywhere in town. There was a nice rooftop terrace and the breakfast was good.
How we spent our time
We went away to get some sun and to rest, so we spent our two days eating pasta - including at the great Osteria da Fortunata - and wandering around the city taking in the historic sites. The weather was great and the city was a good size for just two days, it’s also very reasonably priced and eating is inexpensive. There are lots of antique shops and I enjoyed rummaging for treasures without two young children in tow, and picked up a set of six antique wine glasses which made it home in one piece in hand luggage.
